What to ask for
- A giclée (fine-art inkjet) print on matte archival paper, for example Hahnemühle Photo Rag.
- Print at 100 % — no “fit to page”, no cropping, no extra sharpening.
- The file is sRGB at 300 dpi: hand over the JPEG from the ZIP that matches your frame.
- For a large map, a small test print of one detail before the full sheet costs little and saves a lot.
Which file for which size
Every map comes as six separate downloads. Take the one whose proportions match your frame, and nothing is cropped at the shop.
| File | Standard print and frame sizes |
|---|
| 3:2 | 60×90 cm · 40×60 cm · 24×36 in · 20×30 in |
| 4:3 | 30×40 cm · 45×60 cm · 18×24 in |
| 5:4 | 40×50 cm · 16×20 in · 8×10 in |
| ISO A | A3 · A2 · A1 · A0; also 50×70 cm with a few millimetres trimmed |
| Full sheet / trimmed | The sheet’s own proportions; the product page gives the largest size at 300 dpi |
How to frame it
Almost every ready-made frame comes with a mat — a card with a window cut in it. The window is a little smaller than the picture size on the label, so print the file slightly larger than the window and let the mat cover the edge by about half a centimetre. Frame and window sizes below were read on the retailers’ own pages on 1 October 2026.
Frame with a mat
| Frame | Window in the mat | File | Print at |
|---|
| IKEA RÖDALM / KNOPPÄNG 30×40 cm | 20×29 cm | ISO A | A4 (21×29.7 cm) |
| IKEA RÖDALM / KNOPPÄNG 40×50 cm | 29×39 cm | 4:3 | 30×40 cm |
| IKEA RÖDALM / KNOPPÄNG 50×70 cm | 39×49 cm | 5:4 | 40×50 cm |
| IKEA RÖDALM / KNOPPÄNG 61×91 cm | 49×69 cm | ISO A | 50×70.7 cm |
| 16×20 in, matted to 11×14 in | ≈ 10½×13½ in | 5:4 | 11×13¾ in |
| 18×24 in, matted to 12×18 in | 12×18 in | 3:2 | 12×18 in |
| 22×28 in, matted to 18×24 in | 18×24 in | 4:3 | 18×24 in |
Frame without a mat
Without a mat, print the file at the full inner size of the frame. The blank margin we add around the map in the 3:2, 4:3, 5:4 and ISO files then works as a border of the sheet’s own paper.
| Frame size | File |
|---|
| 30×40 cm | 4:3 |
| 40×50 cm | 5:4 |
| 50×70 cm | ISO A (a few millimetres trimmed) |
| 60×90 cm · 61×91 cm | 3:2 |
| A4 · A3 · A2 · A1 · A0 | ISO A |
| 16×20 in | 5:4 |
| 18×24 in | 4:3 |
| 24×36 in | 3:2 |
At a framing shop, bring the full-sheet or the trimmed file. The framer cuts a mat to the map itself — and the full sheet, with its old margins, looks like a print in a museum case.
Online print services by country
Prices below are for one unframed print, before shipping, read from each service’s own website on 1 October 2026. They change, and “from” means the site shows a starting price. We are not affiliated with any of these services and earn nothing from them; we list the ones whose prices we could check. Sizes are in centimetres unless marked in inches.

Cheap poster or archival print?
Poster paper — the cheapest rows — is fine for a 50×70 print you see from a metre or two. For a framed map you will look at closely, take archival matte paper: it keeps the paper texture we preserved and does not shine. Avoid glossy paper; it fights the engraving.
